How This Tool Works
The wet bulb temperature (WBT) measures the cooling effect of evaporating water into the air. It is calculated using three key measurements: the dry bulb temperature (ambient air temp), the dew point, and the relative humidity. Our calculator uses these inputs to estimate how much the air will cool if it were saturated with water.
Essentially, we model the energy exchange that occurs when sweat evaporates from your skin or when water is sprayed into humid air. The lower the WBT compared to the dry bulb temperature, the faster and more effective the cooling process is, indicating high humidity.
- Dry Bulb Temperature: The actual air temperature.
- Dew Point: The temperature at which water vapor will condense.
- Wet Bulb Temperature: The theoretical minimum temperature the air can reach through evaporative cooling.
