How This Tool Works
This converter simplifies the relationship between apparent power (Volt-Amperes, VA) and true power (Watts, W). Understanding this conversion is key to accurately assessing electrical load. The fundamental link is the Power Factor (PF), which represents how efficiently electrical power is being used.
The relationship is defined by the formula: Watts (W) = VA × PF. Apparent power (VA) measures the total power supplied to a circuit, while true power (W) measures only the actual working power consumed by the load. Our tool allows you to input either VA or W and instantly calculate the missing value, assuming a specified Power Factor. This bidirectional calculation ensures you can quickly determine if your equipment is operating efficiently.
For instance, if your circuit has an apparent load of 10,000 VA and operates at a PF of 0.8, the tool calculates that only 8,000 W are being used for actual work.
