How This Tool Works
The relationship between apparent power (kVA) and real power (kW) is governed by the power factor (PF). Apparent power (kVA) represents the total electrical capacity supplied, while real power (kW) is the actual power consumed by the load to do useful work. This converter calculates the kW value using a simple trigonometric relationship: kW = kVA × PF.
To get an accurate conversion, you must know or estimate the equipment's power factor (PF). For example, if your total capacity is 50 kVA and the load has a perfect power factor of 1.0, the real power consumed will be exactly 50 kW. If the PF drops to 0.8, the conversion calculates 40 kW.
