How This Tool Works
Our Subfloor Calculator simplifies the complex math of flooring preparation. To get an accurate estimate, you simply input three key measurements: the total length of your room, the width of your room, and the required thickness of your subflooring material (e.g., 3/4 inch plywood).
The tool then automatically calculates the total square footage needed for the main surface area. Crucially, it also accounts for necessary waste and overlap—a vital step often overlooked by DIY builders.
For example, if your room measures 16 feet by 24 feet, and you are using standard 3/4" plywood, the calculator provides not just the raw area (384 sq ft), but an adjusted total including a recommended 7% waste margin. This ensures you order enough material without excessive leftovers.
